Grotesque Portrait Paintings

The desire to bring out the strangeness in the everyday is what drives South Korean painter Kim Byungkwan to make art. This manifests itself in off-kilter portraits where the normal features of a human face are washed away with a series of wild brushstrokes. Colour is another important driving force behind his work, as each painting is dominated by a main background colour.
