Having studied fine art and illustration (and specializing in photographic etching) at the Rotterdam Academy, it was only after Sanne Vaghi’s graduation in 2008 that she decided to focus on tattooing. “It has been a long difficult road,” she comments.

Now based in Berlin; her work in the last few years has evolved into something abstract, influenced from glacial rivers and other flowing parts of nature. The feeling of “transience of nature” is what Vaghi is fascinated about. 80% of her tattoos are freehanded, her concepts are a collaboration between her and her clients. “The tattoo becomes a unique piece that flows well with the shape of the body.” She also admits that etching made in art school has been an inspiration, “I see similarities in the work I create now.”
